Borderline between art, science and cinematography

Wunderkammer, whose literal translation is “Chamber of Wonders”, the best wardrobes of curiosities, is an unconventional private collection made up of the most extraordinary objects collected from all over the world, actual rooms of wonders where – in an undifferentiated mix of art and science, naturalia and artificialia – the most unusual finds are associated with all sorts of works of man, rarities and marvels. Each object represents a place, events, time, a scientific discovery or a work of entertainment.

The word “gabinetto” (i.e. private room) originally described a room rather than a fixture and the collection was usually divided into four categories with a Latin taxonomy: Naturalia – products of nature and various rare creatures (with a particular interest in ‘monsters’). The other four followed afterwards: Artificialia – artificial items created or modified by man, ancient works of art; Exotica – exotic items, plants or animals collected from faraway places; Scientifica – testimonies of the ability of man to dominate nature such as astrolabes, clocks, robots and scientific tools.

More concretely, fossils, remains of meteorites or dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago, the suits astronauts used during their journeys to discover the universe and Hollywood props. Natural theatres where everyone is provided with the opportunity to show tangible proof of intelligence, erudition, wealth and taste. Original items acquired from long journeys to faraway places, the desire to catalogue all aspects of the world. Each item provides the opportunity to tell the story of an epic adventure or, more often, to fabricate it. History, science and technology holding hands. Rare and precious items that can be purchased online from our website.
